PRESS RELEASE
MASTER CLASS 2025: MOVIES & MUSIC with British
Producer and Oscar Winner David Puttnam on 29. and 30. September in Vienna
LONDON, 10. September 2025: eQuinoxe Europe e. V. will present in partnership with the Austrian Film Institute on September 29 and 30, its 2025 MASTER CLASS edition with the title MOVIES & MUSIC in Belvedere 21 Blickle Kino, Vienna: The British film producer and 10 time Oscar winner David Puttnam (The Killing Fields, Chariots of Fire, The Mission) will discuss the meaning of music in film as a decisive element for the success of a film. The seminar is for all filmmakers, who wish to enhance their understanding of film music and its synergy with storytelling.
The eQuinoxe Europe Master Class 2025 MUSIC & MOVIES is part of the Atticus Education Master Class Series PRODUCING FOR SCREEN & SOCIETY and is in cooperation with the Austrian Film Museum, Belvedere 21 and the Vienna Film Commission.
The Master Class held by David Puttnam will look at the power and importance of music in film:
Is the use of music the great ‘differentiator’ between many of the films we remember and those we don’t, or simply a ‘wall of sound’ against which the drama plays out? The process of selecting the right composer for the job, and the principal factors that go into making that choice. Assess the contribution of the composer to the overall creative process of filmmaking. The seminar will look at the impact a ‘hit’ song can have on a film’s trajectory with audiences, and the infinite ‘success loop’ that connects a hit movie song, the song’s video, its adoption on social media, and the film’s eventual success at the box office.
Following the seminar, there will be a screening of the film The Killing Fields (1984).
