Sophie Heldman was born in Germany in 1973. She is a director and writer, known for Rich Colors Against Black (2010), Icke (2001), and Miss Pirie and Miss Woods (2026).
Even during her studies she worked on a number of feature films as first and second assistant director with directors including Stina Werenfels, Sydney Pollack, Xavier Koller and Daniel Schmid. Sophie Heldman’s student short film “Icke” was nominated for Best Short Film at the Film Festival Max-Ophüls-Preis. Her first feature film "Satte Farben vor Schwarz" premiered in competition at the 58th San Sebastián International Film Festival and was with 220,000 admissions an arthouse success at the Swiss and German box offices.
Sophie Heldmann was a participant in the 17th equinoxe europe workshop in 2015.
